Little millet, also known as Panicum sumatrense, is primarily grown in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Chhattisgarh. It thrives in well-drained loamy to sandy soils and is highly drought-tolerant. The crop takes 75-90 days to mature.
Alternate names include Kutki in Hindi, Samai in Tamil, Chama in Malayalam, and Same in Kannada. Known for its adaptability to marginal lands, little millet is a vital source of nutrition and a staple in dryland farming regions.
